Coeur's Chicago Community Service Committee partners with a number of community organizations to support positive work being performed in Chicago and Coeur's commitment to operate in a socially and environmentally responsible manner. These efforts involve both volunteer activities and charity drives.
During the holiday season this year, we partnered with the Boys and Girls Club of Chicago for a gift drive. The Boys and Girls Clubs set a goal to make sure each young person who attends its after-school programs receives an age appropriate gift for the holidays. To support this effort, we sent out a flyer in November to all of our Chicago employees inviting them to buy a gift and place it in a gift box we set up in our reception area. We also sought to raise monetary donations by running a "No Shave November" contest, in which participants would make a donation to enter and other employees could donate to vote on who they thought grew the most impressive facial hair during the month.
The response of our staff was enthusiastic and heart-warming. We received more than 100 gifts from the 65 employees in our office, including dolls, robots, Legos, board games and more. We were also able to purchase and present $125 in gift cards to the Boys and Girls Clubs from the "No Shave November" contest for the club to use to buy additional gifts.
The gift drive and contest got everyone here at Coeur in the holiday spirit. We plan to partner with the Boys and Girls Clubs of Chicago on additional fundraisers and events in the New Year. It’s a great organization and we were pleased to be part of the good work they do for the youth of our city.
