For the third year in a row, Coeur Mining partnered with By the Hand Club for Kids to sponsor and assist with their annual Summer reading program. By the Hand’s summer reading program is designed to promote education, excitement and culture with inner city Chicago kids. This year’s theme was #LuvNChi and focused on all things Chicago. Aside from the Reading Playoffs, the kids took field trips to learn about Chicago theater, sports and architecture.
Coeur participated in two volunteer events through By the Hand’s reading program - an architecture scavenger hunt and also the annual Reading Playoffs. We are proud to say that we had over 40 volunteers participate in these two events! This was also the largest Reading Playoffs with over 115 kids participating in the event!
Coeur also identified the Reading Playoffs as an opportunity to educate the kids about mining and the different careers in mining. At the Reading Playoffs, the kids participated in four mining career specific activities to help introduce them to mining. The activities consisted of Cupcake Core Sampling, Birdseed Mining, Wildlife iSpy and Follow the Mine Plan Simon Says.
