Expanding Our Mining Operations in the Palmarejo District

July 21, 2015

By Cástulo Molina, Senior Vice President, Coeur Mexicana - Coeur’s recent acquisition of Paramount Gold and Silver Corp. significantly expanded our Company's mining footprint in Mexico and, specifically, in what we are now calling the Palmarejo District. Paramount's San Miguel mining project neighbors Coeur's Palmarejo, Mexico silver-gold mine. The acquisition of this project provides an opportunity to mine high-grade ore to supplement what Coeur's subsidiary, Coeur Mexicana, is currently mining in the Guadalupe deposit. Expanding our mining operations in the Palmarejo District has three major benefits. First, it is a logical and strategic next step for our mining operation at Palmarejo. Because the San Miguel project is adjacent to Coeur's current operations, there are many synergies that can be achieved, including taking advantage of currently unused capacity in our mill.

Water Management at Coeur Wharf

June 29, 2015

By Ron Waterland, Environmental Manager, Coeur Wharf - Coeur's Wharf Mine in the Black Hills of South Dakota gets approximately 30 inches of precipitation each year, and the precipitation exceeds evaporation. Wharf is a heap leach operation, which means there are several acres of plastic lining that collect water that is then treated before it can be discharged in accordance with our surface water discharge permit. To give a sense of the scope of the operation, consider that we have 7.6 million square feet of plastic lined surfaces that collect approximately 127 million gallons of water per year.

The Mining Industry Meets Rowe-Clark Math & Science Academy Students

June 08, 2015

By Matias Palma - Senior Mine Engineer, Coeur Mining - I had the unique opportunity to represent Coeur and the mining industry at Rowe-Clark Math & Science Academy's third annual Career Fair. Coeur was invited to participate in the Career Fair by the event's sponsor, Exelon Corporation. Coeur was the only mining company represented. It was energizing to talk with these talented students about the mining industry and the environmental and safety aspects of how we approach our work. Participating in events like the Rowe-Clark Math & Science Academy Career Fair is part of Coeur's corporate responsibility commitment to encourage math and science education and engage with the communities in which we live and work. What I like the most about this mission is that it gives us the chance to meet so many passionate and bright students and talk with them about their future.
